Wyalkatchem supports breast cancer research

October saw two events to raise money for breast cancer research and breast cancer nurses

A breast cancer brunch was held at the Wyalkatchem Club on a Saturday morning, beginning with a walkathon. Although only six ladies and two children did the 5 kilometre walk to the golf club and back, they raised over $500 for their efforts. The walkers had a police escort all the way. Thanks to the Wylie police for providing this and getting into the spirit with pink balloon decorations.  The club was also decorated beautifully with pink balloons, streamers and posters and many of those attending got into the spirit by wearing pink. The meal was delicious beginning with fruit and then including cooked bacon, eggs, tomatoes etc.

Guest speaker Ruth Maitland spoke of her experiences with breast cancer and the choices she had to make - the talk was very interesting and brought up many issues that people would not have thought about.

The patchwork group had their quilts on display and there were two other stalls plus plants for sale. At the end of the morning Wylie's own bootscooters, "Wylie 7 & Co" put on an exhibition which had the audience clapping their hands and tapping their feet

Congratulations to organisers Caron Pearse and Wendy Chapman on doing a great job - final total raised was $1350. Later in the week Krista Paterson from Elders ran a 20/20 cricket match for anybody who wanted to attend.  This was to raise money for the Glen McGrath foundation which supports breast cancer care nurses. Over $300 was raised - well done
