Congratulations to Ian Jones, who has been awarded Rotary's most prestigious award

Ian JonesThe Paul Harris fellowship award is named after the founder of Rotary.  It is a wonderful award that is given to recognize service above self to humanitarian causes with the added benefit of a further $1000 being donated back to such causes world wide. Ian received the award at the recent Rotary changeover held at the Recreation Centre. His wife Robyn, and three children, Roland, Noel and Jomelle were all there to share in the excitement, which was amazingly kept secret until then!
Ian joined the Wyalkatchem Rotary Club, District 9470 in 1994 after hosting a Mexican exchange student and discovering the wonderful programs run by Rotary.  At club level he has been President twice, Sergeant at Arms for two years, Membership Director and Club Service person, as well as an active fund raiser. "Jonesy" can always be seen pitching in or coordinating all sorts of events for Rotary.
At a District level he has risen from Assistant District Governor and  District Governor Nominee to his present position of  District Governor Elect, leading up to the big one, District Governor from July 2009.
Ian has also been active in the wider Wyalkatchem Community especially with his work with the Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, having been secretary of Nalkain, Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the Wyalkatchem Shire and SES team leader. He has umpired basketball and football, been President and committee member of the Wyalkatchem Telecentre Committee, past President of the P and C and Agricultural Advisory Committee at Wyalkatchem District High School, Anglican Church Warden, Cowcowing Ski Club founding member and a Tidy Towns Advocate and worker to name a few of his contributions.

Congratulations Jonesy on  a well deserved award
