New Walk-a-Wyal Trail now open
The Walk-a-Wyal trail was an initiative of Landcare, instigated by Hannah Sadler who applied successfully for funding through Lotterywest. Marcus Reilly, Landcare President spoke briefly on how the track had been funded and planned and thanked the Shire for the work that had been done around the circuit. Ellen Della Bosca spoke on behalf of the Shire about how the track would be incorporated in Shire events such as the Heritage and Roses Festival and the Shire's commitment to maintain the track. Mr Kevin Jones took the idea of buying and building a gazebo to Rotary, who put him in charge, consequently there is a resting point at the junction of the three tracks thanks to Rotary.
Ross Crute was responsible for the information posted on the signs around the trail, while the Wooroloo Prison Camp workers put up the poles and directional markers
A competition had been held to name the track and this was won by Beth O'Donnell who came up with the very appropriate name of Walk-A-Wyal. Beth had the honour of cutting the ribbon, after which the assembled multitude walked to the gazebo for morning tea. It was great to see teachers Tracey Clark and Asher Lewis and their classes also attend.
The trail can be found at the east end of Piesse Street. You can see more photos of the morning by clicking on the photo gallery on the left hand side of the page.
